Armour Home Improvements specialises in the supply of high-quality, double glazed windows and doors. Founded by John McCulloch, the company also offers a range of additional services, including conservatories, garage and loft conversions, decking and PVC roofline products.

From early beginnings in 2007 as a ‘man in a van’, John has grown his business to employ a team of 11 people from premises in Ayr’s Crown Street. He first contacted the Business Gateway team during the COVID-19 pandemic.

John explains: “I had just taken the step of trying to expand the business and moving to new premises when COVID struck. Unfortunately, we didn’t qualify for any of the COVID funding, however the Business Gateway team was really helpful and looked at other avenues of support available to us.

“Initially we received a shop front grant which was ideal to get our name on show. This was followed by business support funding which was a real turning point. This allowed us to purchase equipment to get our business up and running properly, meaning we could take on more staff and start to grow.

“We then received an Ambition to Grow grant which we used mainly for marketing to help us expand our customer base outwith South Ayrshire.”

Recently, Business Gateway has supported Armour Home Improvements with Procurement Consultancy to help them tender for local authority contracts in the West of Scotland and they have now been accepted onto the framework for South Ayrshire Council contracts.

John says: “My business would not be where it is now without the help of South Ayrshire’s Business Gateway team. Using them feels like I’ve had a short-cut to success, as without them, it would have taken years longer to get to this stage. I would recommend them to anyone trying to grow their business.”
